Gender equality and the Women’s Empowerment Principles

Academic Support Services NG Ltd, trading as NigeriaPolls, has adopted the Women’s Empowerment Principles established by UN Women and the United Nations Global Compact, and has submitted its Statement of Support.

Why a research company

Our work is measuring public opinion and social conditions across Nigeria, and a considerable part of it concerns the circumstances of Nigerian women and girls. We cannot credibly measure inequality in the country while ignoring it inside our own company.

The seven Principles

  1. Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality.
  2. Treat all women and men fairly at work, respecting and supporting human rights and non-discrimination.
  3. Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all women and men workers.
  4. Promote education, training and professional development for women.
  5. Implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women.
  6. Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy.
  7. Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality.

The Principles are published by UN Women and the UN Global Compact at weps.org.

What we already practise

Gender representation in our samples is a methodological requirement rather than an aspiration. We weight by age, gender, state and geopolitical zone against published National Population Commission demographics, and we report findings disaggregated by sex and age so that differences between women and men are visible rather than averaged away. The method is published in full at /methodology.

Our published indices on healthcare access, education quality, security perception and governance trust exist to put the experience of ordinary Nigerians, women included, into the public record where policy can reach it.

Our interviewers are recruited in the states where research takes place rather than concentrated in Lagos, which makes paid professional work available to women outside the commercial centre. Fieldwork is paid on agreed day rates rather than per completed interview.

What we have not done yet

We were incorporated in 2026 and we do not yet publish workforce gender data. Principle seven asks companies to measure and report on progress, and we intend to begin doing that rather than claim a record we have not built. We would rather name the gap than fill it with language.

Our commitment

We commit to the seven Principles above, to making this statement public, and to reporting on our progress. This page is reviewed annually.
