Economic Overview
Kaduna State's economy reflects its historical importance as the administrative and industrial capital of Northern Nigeria. Agriculture remains the largest employer, with the state's northern zones producing substantial quantities of maize, sorghum, millet, and groundnuts. The state was once Nigeria's textile manufacturing capital, hosting the famous Kaduna Textiles and other mills that have since declined due to cheap imports and power challenges. However, Kaduna retains significant industrial capacity through the Kaduna Refinery, Defence Industries Corporation, and numerous pharmaceutical companies. Kaduna city's strategic location on the rail and road corridors connecting Lagos to Kano and Abuja to the northwest makes it a critical logistics and transport hub.
